Harnessing the Healing Power of Red Light Therapy at Home

Red Light and Mitochondrial Function

I once believed that my red light therapy was just about helping my skin and a little bity of mitochondrial ATP production but I have learned that it is so much more! First of all, I recommend you really study and find out about all the amazing things that mitochondria do in your body. They are not just the powerhouses of your cells they are in and of themselves probably the most important cell in our body. They are an ancient bacteria that has it's own DNA and they keep a copy of our original DNA which hopefully someday we will be able to access and use as a backup for our corrupt DNA. The mitochondria do so much more than just create energy (ATP) they actually run most of the functions of the cell. They are always on the lookout for what needs to be done and then they communicate with all parties in our body to activate them to get to work.

The better your mitochondria function, the more you have, the younger and stronger they are guess what.. the better your entire body and every function in your body will be. Here is some interesting facts about mitochondria.

  1. Energy production: Mitochondria produce energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is used by cells to fuel their activities. Without this energy production we would die within seconds.

  2. Regulation of cell death: Mitochondria play a role in regulating cell death, including programmed cell death (apoptosis) and cell death due to injury or stress.

  3. Signal transduction: Mitochondria produce signaling molecules that play a role in the communication between cells and in the regulation of various cellular processes.

  4. Metabolism: Mitochondria are involved in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and amino acids, which are important for maintaining energy levels and overall health.

  5. Aging: Mitochondrial dysfunction has been linked to the aging process, and some researchers believe that maintaining healthy mitochondria may be important for slowing down the aging process.

So anything that we can do to keep our mitochondria healthy and happy we need to do and here are some of the benefits that red light therapy at home can give your mitochondria.

  1. Increased energy production: Red light therapy may stimulate the production of ATP, the energy currency of cells, within mitochondria.

  2. Improved mitochondrial function: Red light therapy may improve the function of mitochondria by increasing the activity of enzymes involved in energy production and reducing oxidative stress.

  3. Enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis: Red light therapy may increase the number of mitochondria within cells, a process known as mitochondrial biogenesis.

  4. Improved mitochondrial efficiency: Red light therapy may improve the efficiency of mitochondria by increasing the utilization of oxygen and reducing the production of harmful byproducts.

Red Light and Skin Health

I know we are all looking for ways to stay looking and feeling young and taking care of our skin is a priority. I have seen a huge difference in my skin after using red light therapy. You do have to use it daily or atleast 5 days a week and you need to do it for months. This is not an instant gratification type of treatment but over time you see and feel and noticeable difference. Here are some benefits that some people claim to have.

  1. Reducing inflammation: Red light therapy may help reduce inflammation in the skin by increasing the production of anti-inflammatory molecules.

  2. Stimulating collagen production: Red light therapy may stimulate the production of collagen, a protein that helps keep skin looking firm and youthful.

  3. Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles: Red light therapy may improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production and increasing blood flow to the skin.

  4. Improving skin texture: Red light therapy may improve the texture of the skin by increasing collagen production and improving blood flow.

  5. Reducing the appearance of scars: Red light therapy may help reduce the appearance of scars by stimulating the production of collagen and improving blood flow to the affected area.

Red Light and Cardiovascular Health

Unfortunately with autoimmune diseases you are always looking at your cardiovascular health because you know you have increased inflammation and risk of cardiovascular disease. After using my red light for one year my HS-CRP score went down, my HDL (good cholesterol) went up, by blood pressure has gone from super high 160/120 to 110/80. Granted I have done a ton of lifestyle changes so I think it is a combination of the changes I have made to my diet, exercise and also all the treatments I do but the results and changes to my body are undeniable and I will definitely continue doing red light therapy and recommend it to those that want better health.

  1. Improved circulation: Red light therapy may improve circulation by increasing blood flow and oxygenation to the tissues.

  2. Reduced inflammation: Red light therapy may help reduce inflammation in the body, including in the cardiovascular system.

  3. Lower blood pressure: Some studies have suggested that red light therapy may help lower blood pressure in people with hypertension.

  4. Improved cholesterol levels: Red light therapy may improve cholesterol levels by decreasing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.

Choosing the right equipment.

Top notch red light panels are certainly not cheap and there are many companies that manufacture and sell red light therapy devices. It can be difficult to determine which companies offer the best products, as the effectiveness of red light therapy devices can vary. Here are a few factors to consider when choosing a red light therapy at home device:

  1. Quality: Look for devices that are made with high-quality materials and have a good track record of performance.

  2. Safety: Choose a device that has been tested for safety and follows relevant safety guidelines and regulations.

  3. Effectiveness: Consider devices that have been shown to be effective in clinical studies or have a high number of positive customer reviews.

  4. Customer service: Look for a company that offers good customer service, including support and technical assistance.

It is also a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider before using a red light therapy device, especially if you have a pre-existing health condition or are pregnant.

The panels I decided to invest in is from a company called Joovv. I have four panels so it covers my entire front or back of my body at a time. They are very well made. The company has excellent support and service. It is always my intention to give two or three options for any product or service so as I try other brands I will update this information with additional recommended products.

Go get those mitochondria charged up with some red light!
